FAQ

🌱 Getting Started
Q1. Do I need a subscription to use Idevo?

A. No. Idevo does not require a subscription. The app uses a freemium model with three modes:

  • Basic (Free): Fully offline, no account, no tracking. Limited to importing the last 3 months of ChatGPT history.
  • Lite (One-time purchase): Removes the 3-month import limit.
  • Pro (One-time purchase): Unlocks Insights (charts & analytics) and all Lite features.

Idevo remains offline-only, with no ads and no data collection. You can upgrade Lite or Pro at any time, but nothing requires a recurring subscription.

Q2. Do I need to create an account or sign in to use the app?

A. No. Idevo does not require you to create an account or sign in.

It organizes and visualizes ChatGPT conversation data obtained by the user, with all processing and storage completed securely on your iPhone.

Q3. How can I obtain my ChatGPT conversation history (conversations.json)?

A. You can export it from ChatGPT → Settings → Data Controls → Export Data. The export can be performed on both the app and the web version.

After you tap the export button, OpenAI will send an email to the address registered with your ChatGPT account. The message includes a download link to a .zip file containing your conversations.json.

Note: Email delivery may take several hours, or in some cases up to a full day. Since the export process is managed by OpenAI, please contact OpenAI Support for details regarding any delays or issues.

Q4. Do I need a computer to import my data?

A. No, everything can be done on your iPhone.

As long as the email associated with your OpenAI account is accessible on your iPhone, the entire export–import flow can be completed on your device.

Once the export process is completed on OpenAI’s side, you will receive an email titled “ChatGPT – Your data export is ready.”
*Please note that it often takes some time for this email to arrive.

Tap the “Download data export” link in the email, and your default browser on iPhone (such as Safari) will begin downloading the .zip file.

Note: You may be asked to sign in to your OpenAI account in your browser, especially the first time. This is a normal part of OpenAI’s export process.

After the download finishes, simply tap the “Import” button in Idevo and select the .zip file. The app will automatically extract only the necessary data from within the archive.

Once the email arrives, the remaining import steps typically take only a few minutes.

📥 Import & Data Scope
Q5. What happens to my existing data if I re-import a conversation file? (by mode)

A. Starting with v1.2, the import behavior depends on the mode you are using (Basic / Lite / Pro). The available import options and the range of data processed differ by mode.

Basic mode
When you import a new conversation file, your current library is replaced with the new data.
Conversation threads with activity within the last three months are eligible, and the entire thread is imported.

Lite / Pro modes
You can choose between two import methods when importing a file.

① Append import (diff import)
Only conversations and newly added messages (questions and responses) that do not already exist in Idevo are imported.
All existing data, favorites, and tags are fully preserved.

② Replace import (classic behavior)
Your current library is replaced with the contents of the new file.
If the new file contains the same conversations or messages, previously saved favorites are retained.

Regardless of the mode, all conversations and individual messages are processed securely on-device. Idevo never sends your data to external servers.

Q6. Are voice conversation transcripts imported into Idevo?

A. Conversation threads that consist only of transcripts generated from voice conversations may not be imported into Idevo, as they can differ from standard chat data structures.

If you later continue the same thread by typing a message, the conversation will be imported starting from that text-based interaction.

Idevo archives conversations based on the data included in your ChatGPT export, rather than how conversations may appear in the ChatGPT interface.

Q7. Why are conversations with older dates included even when I specify a date range?

A. In Idevo, the selected date range is not used to slice or trim individual messages. Instead, it is used as a condition to determine which conversation threads are eligible for import.

If a conversation thread contains at least one message within the specified date range, the entire thread is imported to preserve its continuity. This may include messages from earlier or later dates.

Example:
A conversation thread started in May and continued in November.
→ If November falls within the selected date range, the earlier messages from May are also included.

Q8. Why did the title appear as “New chat” when importing a recent conversation?

A. Idevo reads and displays conversation titles exactly as they appear in the exported data.

Depending on the state of the data at the time of export, the original conversation title may still be recorded as “New chat”. In such cases, Idevo displays the title as-is.

If you import data in which the conversation title has been correctly reflected in the original data, the correct title will be reflected in Idevo.

For Lite or Pro users, even if there are no updates to the conversation thread, title updates (renames) are detected and automatically reflected during incremental imports.

Q9. Can I delete imported conversations?

A. Deletion functionality is not available in the current version (v1.2). It is planned for a future update.

🪶 Features
Q10. What is the “Add to Favorites” feature?

A. This feature lets you save your favorite ChatGPT responses to custom Favorites groups. You can easily create new groups and reorder them with intuitive gestures.

You can create up to 10 Favorites, making it easy to organize them by theme or purpose.

Q11. What does the date shown above a conversation thread represent?

A. The date shown in the Memory (conversation list) view represents the day when the conversation was first started (the conversation thread’s start date).

Since AI conversations can often continue across multiple days, this date is displayed as a fixed reference to indicate when the conversation originally began.

As a result, when you use the date-based filter in the Timeline (by dropping a pin on a specific date), the date shown above the conversation thread may not match the selected Timeline date.

* This display can be hidden from the Settings menu if preferred.

Q12. Does Idevo support tab swiping?

A. Yes, it does. In Idevo, you can swipe between the main tabs — Insights / Timeline / Memory — as well as your Favorites groups.

Swiping makes navigation smooth and effortless, even with one hand.

Q13. Can I export to PDF?

A. Yes. You can export selected responses as a PDF. You can also customize options such as showing the ChatGPT label or including page numbers — all from the menu.

* PDFs are generated on your device and can be shared via AirDrop, Mail, or Files.

Note:
PNG image export (chat-bubble sharing) was discontinued in v1.2. Idevo now focuses exclusively on PDF export as a long-term, archival-friendly format.

🕰 Timeline
Q14. What do the 💬 and 💡 icons next to each date in the timeline mean?

A. The icons shown next to each date in the timeline represent an overview of your activity for that day.

💬 Conversations
Indicates the number of conversation threads (topics) that were active on that day.
Even conversations created in the past are counted if interactions occurred on that date.

💡 Answers
Indicates the total number of responses generated by ChatGPT on that day.

※ Due to data sanitization and Idevo’s own aggregation logic, the displayed numbers may not exactly match the original conversation data.

Q15. What are Timeline Highlights?

A. Timeline Highlights select one representative conversation block for the morning and the afternoon of each day, based on how your conversations unfolded over time. They are designed to help you reflect on what you were thinking about and when your thoughts tended to continue.

Timeline Highlights display a time range shown in 30-minute increments, along with a start time and a turn count, all derived from conversation timestamps.

Note: Highlight selection takes the overall time span of a conversation into account, so the highlighted conversation is not always the one with the highest number of turns. Displayed time ranges are intended as a visual guide for timeline readability and do not represent continuous usage or exact time spent.

Q16. Why is a conversation highlighted even if it was created at a different time?

A. Timeline Highlights are not selected based on when a conversation was created, but on the AM or PM time range of the day.

As a result, a conversation created at a different time may still appear as a highlight if it meets the conditions within that AM or PM period, representing that part of the day.

Q17. What is a Daily Highlight?

A. If the same conversation is selected as a Timeline Highlight for both the morning and the afternoon, it is shown as a single Daily Highlight with an AM / PM badge.

Note: This is a display-level presentation to reflect the flow of a day.

Q18. Why do highlights sometimes appear shifted when viewing conversations from another country?

A. Idevo’s Timeline and AM / PM highlights are displayed based on your current device time zone.

If you used ChatGPT while traveling and later view those conversations from a different country or time zone, the day, AM / PM split, and displayed time ranges may appear shifted compared to the original local time.

This is expected behavior and does not indicate missing data or a bug. It ensures consistent timeline rendering based on your current time zone.

📊 Insights
Q19. How are Insights (graphs) generated?

A. All charts are rendered on-device using Apple’s native technologies. Idevo reads your exported conversations.json locally and analyzes model usage and monthly trends — all without any server or upload.

Q20. What do the numbers shown at the top of Insights (Conversations and Messages) represent?

A. The conversation count shown in Insights does not represent the total number of conversation threads in your archive. For each selected time period (day, week, month, or year), it shows the number of unique conversation threads that had at least one meaningful assistant response.

If the same conversation is active across multiple time periods, it may be counted once in each of those periods.

The message count, on the other hand, represents the total number of meaningful assistant responses generated within the selected period.

These metrics are designed not simply to show raw totals, but to help you reflect on the rhythm, density, and continuity of your thinking and conversations over time.

Q21. How is the “average messages per day” metric shown on iPad calculated?

A. In Idevo, the “average messages per day” metric is calculated based on the number of calendar days within the selected period.

As a result, days with no activity are also included in the average. At the same time, periods with no data and future dates are handled carefully so they do not skew the result.

🔒 Privacy & Security
Q22. Is any of my data sent to the cloud or external servers?

A. No. Idevo is a fully offline app. Your imported conversations are processed and stored entirely on your device, with no network transmission or data upload performed by the app itself.

Note: Like other iOS apps, Idevo’s local data may be included in your system-level iCloud backup if you have it enabled. When you export a PDF, the file is also generated entirely on your device. Idevo never uploads or transmits any content externally — sharing occurs only when you choose to send the file via AirDrop, email, or other apps.

Q23. How is my conversation data protected on the device?

A. All conversation text is protected with strong, on-device AES encryption. Encryption keys are generated and stored only on your device, and never leave it.

Non-personal metadata (e.g., tags, timestamps) is also stored locally, and nothing is ever sent to any server.

For additional privacy, we recommend enabling Face ID Lock by long-pressing the Idevo app icon. This adds an extra layer of protection by requiring Face ID / Touch ID whenever you open the app.

Q24. Is conversation data protected while the device is locked?

Conversation data is inaccessible while your device is locked.

The encrypted conversation archive is protected using iOS Data Protection (NSFileProtectionComplete), providing strong, OS-level security entirely on your device.

🪟 Transparency & Referential Integrity
Q25. Can I view the original timestamp and message number?

Yes. Idevo allows you to view the original timestamp and the message number (Idevo’s reference index) for each message in a conversation.

By long-pressing the display area on the right side of a message header in the conversation view, the normally shown model name will temporarily switch, revealing these reference details.

The message number is an Idevo-specific reference index that indicates the message’s position within a thread. It is provided for reference only and does not imply completeness or accuracy of the conversation.

If some messages are not displayed, message numbers may not be sequential.

This information is shown for reference only. Viewing it does not modify any saved data or conversation content.

Q26. Does Idevo comply with AI service terms of use?

Idevo is designed as a post-export, local-only viewer.

It does not access any AI service servers directly, and it only works with conversation data that users have officially exported themselves.

In line with the respective terms of use, conversation inputs and outputs belong to the user. Idevo simply provides a better lens to organize and reflect on that data — entirely on your device.

🚀 Features & Roadmap
Q27. What can you tell us about future updates and development plans?

A. Idevo is a tool designed to archive insights gained through conversations with AI, and help users revisit them in a clear and intuitive way. In the current 1.x releases, our top priority is building a solid and reliable foundation for a long-term archive, based on privacy-focused design.

Every update is designed to store conversation history safely offline, and to remain a tool users can trust and rely on over time, without entrusting their data to external systems.
